![]() Now that you have a decent idea of what to look for in a ship you can decide what direction to go in. You can't expect to be the best over night, but with some work and understanding you'll get better. It's a matter of figuring out the ship's strengths and weaknesses then working towards improving it. Release date: July 27, 2010The Intrepid-class Long Range Science Vessel Retrofit is a Tier 5 (Level 50) Science Vessel which may be flown by Starfleet characters, including Federation-aligned Romulan Republic and Dominion characters. ![]() The important thing to remember is that there is no quick fix and that no particular ship is better than another. I'm not saying that you shouldn't try to be good, but it's different than in PvP (player versus player) because it requires more planning and strategy. When doing PvE (which is when you battle the computer) you don't need to worry as much about which ship to use. A ship with high ranked science bridge officer stations would fit the role of Support better than Damage. For example, a Tactical captain can boost damage so you should expect the ship you are using to be able to cause more damage. The best way to determine a ship's role is by looking at its size, bridge officer stations, console slots, and your captain's career. Some examples are support vessels and science ships. The primary purpose of these is to support allies by healing/buffing them, debuffing the enemy, and of course causing damage. Support - They can be mid-sized ships with a nice balance between Tanks and Damage ships. Energy Weapons do equal damage to both a starship s shields and hull. Some examples are escorts and bird-of-prey. There are two different types of starship weapons: Energy Weapons and Kinetic Weapons. High speeds and healing abilities could allow them to survive a long time. Since they are quick they could also be built to distract enemies. Due to this they can turn to point at an enemy quickly and fire all of their cannons to cause massive amounts of damage. They can also be used to cause lots of damage and support your team by healing them or debuffing the enemy.ĭamage - These ships are generally smaller, more maneuverable, and can equip cannons. ![]() At each new rank between Level 10 and Level 40, players are given a free starship token for the respective tier. Players are granted ships by their faction as they progress in rank. Some examples are cruisers, carriers, heavy warbirds, and battle cruisers just to name a few. For an overview of non-playable starships within Star Trek Online, see the Non-playable starship article Playable Starships in Star Trek Online are as much a part of a player's avatar as their Captain. They are the best for distracting enemies while your Damage ships cause damage. Tanks - These are usually large ships that move and turn slowly but can take a lot of hits. To start let's break down all of the ships into three simple categories: It is that good. There are tons of ships in STO which can make it a bit overwhelming when deciding what kind of ship to use. Players are granted ships by their faction as they progress in rank. I also think I may have one of my lesser used toons fly one of these as the primary ship. Standard beam arrays were just not well suited to the battle cruiser layout of this excellent ship. I will eventually load this ship up with either DBB up front or Cannons and then it should move up the list drastically. Stealthing up to a group of enemies and then decloak and dragon breath the crap out of them will eliminate the group quickly leaving crispy fried debris in orbit. ![]() The ship is quick enough and turns well enough to keep up with the destroyers in Japori and they go down hard and fast under the breath of the dragon. I will say the Dragon’s Breath attack is actually pretty strong. Overall the ship didn’t fair well in the trial but that was mostly due to the lousy equipment I put on there. I even left the standard issue disintegration rays because, well you know why, they are disintegration rays, how could I not leave them on there □ In reality these are disruptors. Now I did not equip the ship with any good stuff at all. Well did the Admiral fly this thing in the Top Gun patrols or not? Yes, yes he did.
